How to change a main tire on an Airbus: Wait for the ramp temperature to be in the high 90's (37C)and have a load of impatient passengers. Then find 3 or 4 of your best friends, an 85 ton jack and a 10 foot long "Johnson Bar" to help do the heavy lifting.

See "www.flightaware.com" - "popular photos" for an action packed still picture. If you don't see it, go to "Photos" - then in the "Custom" window put in A320 Tire or FlightAware username "metom7" and it will pop up with a lot of nice Airbus pictures.

I'd like to thank all of you who took the time to watch this movie and make such useful criticisms. You too will be old and gray some day, if you make it.

  • There are four men changing the tire because it is very hot outside, almost 100 degrees. Also, airplane mechanics have social dispositions. We often times help each other even when not assigned to a particular job. This is partially because we have worked together for years and also that most of us understand that we can't do everything by ourselves. Big airplanes take a team effort, and true team members know what is needed and what the other person is doing to complete a repair.

  • Thank you. That tire is a Michelin, made in North Carolina USA

  • Charlotte, North Carolina USA. The airplane is part of the Airbus A320 Family and is an Airbus A321.

  • where is your steel toe boots??

  • Not quite formula 1 speed on the tire change but a quick job considering the size and weight of the tire and the plane!!!

  • @metom7 How much one of them tires weigh?

  • An MD-80 towbar can work like a Johnson Bar in a pinch! ; )

  • loud APU

  • Man, those wheels are much larger when viewed this way than when you see them in normal operation. I can imagine what a nose wheel for the 747 or A380 must be like!

  • That tire was well within limits!

  • @64h5dsf14j6s41h5s4j5 I agree, 2 is normal, 4 is well over the top. They are not even using a thread protector, I know from past experience, that it can save a long and expensive delay if you damage the threads.
