Terry Riley c'est le merlin l'enchanteur de la musique minimale et répétitive. Ce précurseur du New Age et de l'Ambiant ensorcelle les plus grands musiciens depuis le milieu des années 60. Le Velvet Underground intègre ses boucles musicales dans ces chansons. Le compositeur et arrangeur Brian Eno s'inspire du son de ses claviers atmosphériques. Soft Machine lui consacre un album, Kraftwerk et le mouvement Space Rock allemand lui empruntent sa radicalité. Enfin, les Who lui dédient l'un de leur titre "Baba O'Riley" qui débute avec l'une des plus célèbres compositions de ce chaman de la transe.
