Part 2 - Continuing the BBC broadcast of 1963 we look at Highbridge and the freight trains which were still running to Burnham on Sea. The former loco works of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway were derelict but still in situ.

  • Absolutely love the "Airfix" packages, all neatly tied and well looked after by a Uniformed man, complete with cap! Priceless times sadly now all undone by modern era management with no concept of morality or conscience.....Ah well.

  • We were robbed

  • People hate anything well made, it gives them a guilty conscience.

  • Wonderful programs. I only read about them until I discovered your posts on Youtube. A bundle of thanks!

If you want a little sign of Betjeman's devotion to history(as if the whole of his work isn't teeming with them), take note of how he takes his hat off when standing before the war memorial.

  • @colliecandle Well I'm sure the BBC would have been capable of filming this program on 1950's panoramic widescreen format Todd A-O stock but they didn't. Why? Because it wouldn't have been broadcast in that format. It was a logical economical decision. The show would be shown in black and white so they shot it in black and white.

TV is for sheeple? What a stupid generalization. I'm not even going to engage in that argument.

  • @flanneryged Yes, I agree - MUCH more valuable than the whole bunch of 'royal parasites'!

  • @BillyIsATwat23 The bbc was capable of RECORDING in colour ! It [colour] has been around a LOT earlier than 1967. I don't watch TV of ANY persuasion, as it's just dross for sheeple, and I'm no sheeple!

  • @colliecandle Why would they? They didn't start broadcasting in colour until 1967.

And as for the BBC, what would you rather have? Sky? A network who's headline new season Saturday night show is a 15 years after the event rip-off of BBC show "So They Think It's All Over"? But that's OK 'cos it's in HD and makes it worth the £30 a month subscription.

You'd take that over BBC4? Radios 2,3 & 4? The iPlayer? World beating period drama? Mad Men? Doctor Who? 80 years worth of archive? F*ck off.

  • DearJohnfwake.....Don't say anything funny on this blog or the FUNpolice@Theresalwayssomeone will have you caught and sent to stationroom 101....I warn you ....I tried !!!-- but it's no good ...in fact resistance is useless----this is a FUN free zone !!!!!

  • Anyone know if this magnificent fIlm is available on DVD ?
