he is not playing an A. he is playing flat a!!! in other words he tuned his guitar half step down and also palm mutes the OPEN d, g and b - strings, while going back to the third bar with his index finger with those three strings

Never was a huge blues fan. But SRV was the man! If there is a reason to learn to play the blues, it's Steve Ray. Being a metal fan I sometimes like to imagine Dime, Cliff Burton, SRV, et al playing in heaven. Yet another amazing musician taken from us far too soon.
