1960s zoom out dolly shot from cash register to female customer (There's nothing wrong with your monitor, this clip has no sound). Check out the bagger!

And be sure to check out this amazing video from Curtis Brownjohn on Filmmaking Techniques:

  • no joke.....the store I worked at for many years had its cash register (1980s) shorted out and died. The reason why? A cock roach walked between two points on a circuit board and bridged two terminals.....fried the circuit board.....and the roach

  • @OofusTwillip The first job I ever had in 1974.....they had an old mechanical register like this but smaller. Everything had to be done manually, figure out the tax (usually you had a state tax chart taped to the register). At the end of the night my boss spent hours tallying the separate departments and balancing the drawer. Now it's done in seconds

  • Did you see those prices?!?! $.55,.33,.45,.55 How I wish but in Hawaii .33 might get you a stick of gum. Oh and the bag boy is Tom Cruise before he was in Cocktail.

  • Yes, I too wish this clip had sound. But thanks for putting this up anyway! Brings back memories!

  • WD40 wouldn't fix it, even if you used several cans of the stuff.

An electro mechanical cash register contains thousands of metal parts (like gears and pinions), which all need to be taken out, cleaned, re-lubricated, and put back into their original places. It's a massive job, and a highly skilled one. Unfortunately, most of the guys who used to service these machines have either retired or died, and the new technicians are only familiar with electronic cash registers.

  • Use wd40!!!!!

  • I wish this footage had sound. I used to love the sound of those electromechanical cash registers when I was really little.

I now own one of them, but it was in storage for 30 years, so it's completely seized up. Still, it's a very safe place for storing laundry money, if you know where the secret drawer release button is.
