I think artists like Matisyahu are proof that while hip hop does lose something when it's separated out from the culture in which it emerged, it also gains tremendously from it's joining with other cultural settings. Ultimately we all benefit when cultures and ideas merge.

No. White people had *NOTHING* to do with the creation of rap as an artform. Hip Hop as a culture, yes. I take nothing away from my white brothers and sisters who were there in the early days and who have made positive contributions to this culture, and the arts that comprise it. Graffiti, in particular has had many people of all backgrounds. Taki 187, one of the first to do graff, was white.
As a bboy for 30 years, I will not let you or anyone else distort truth.
