Free Glory To God using the new ICEL translation (Roman Missal)
Gloria in honor of Blessed Ralph Sherwin (†1581)
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

  • @azmmc

That is what Jeff was going for. Chant (particularly Gregorian) remains the official music of the Church. A splendid job. Beautiful and accessible. Much better than what I'm used to.

  • @mph66 Unfortunately, you seriously underestimate the intellect and abilities of Catholics. This song is vastly easier to sing than any of the pseudo-settings by Haugen or Haas. I SUCK at singing, yet I can sing this with infinite more ease than I can a setting by, say, Proulx. Chant is such an easy style of music to learn compared to the trash in most of our parishes nowadays.

  • This is a gorgeous, reflective song. Unfortunately, this song will only serve to alienate the congregation from the Mass. Who will be able to sing this? Vatican II was about empowering parishioners in their spiritual quest. This is a step backwards- people will allow a cantor to sing for them and they will be back to a vicarious spiritual experience, instead of an active, participatory role.

  • @bongiojf 'Active Participation' doesn't mean what you think it might mean. It means to be interiorly present to the realities happening. You are encouraged to sing and respond as best as you can, but say you were blind or deaf - would you not be actively participating at Mass? This is the most mis-understood concept in our churches today! I taught at a Catholic grade school in the midwest this past year. We learned an entire Latin Mass chant setting and it was their favorite!

  • If we're gong to change it, we might as well go all the way back to when it wasn't broken! Put it back in the univerrsal language of the church! :) Look up the Gloria in Latin! MUCH better

  • @LTPaiulellA Yeah, musicians that like to rip of Danny Elfman. No thanks. I'll stick with the traditional stuff.

  • This is the way it should be, bring back the old solemnity the God deserves, the glory of Gregorian Chant! Gloria In Excelsis Deo!!!+++

  • @AnotherAppleMacbook Is this really going to take the church into the 21st century. In the last 40 years we have had some inspiring music from composers such as Paul Inwood.

  • @LTPaiulellA yes this....

  • I think it will be easier for people to participate.
