  • That is a beautiful way to think of the personal "sacred circle." This is why I watch your videos; you're so full of knowledge and there's always something to learn from you! :) Working off of the idea of a personal circle space, perhaps a good way to think of a ritual circle or "magickal circle" is to think of it as an extension of your own circle. You can't completely expel bad energy because, as you said, that will always be within yourself, but you can keep other bad energies out, and invite

  • @olliegreenman Ah, now that's one way of putting it! I like it!!!

  • for me i enjoyed the circle as a visualization meditation, i remember it being an interesting experience and yeah i visioned it as a sphere of energy. but i dont think it makes sense as a boundary or as a sacred space. i prefer to think of the entire universe as sacred and these days instead of thinking of a small sphere around myself i vision myself as part of the greater sphere of the earth. that is a much bigger feeling.

  • @AnnikaGarratt Awesome!! I do something similar, kinda like Native American shamans and a form of Buddhist meditation where you visualise yourself as part of a greater whole. =]

  • love the little kids in the background :) sweet!

When I feel a little anxious it comforts me to have a circle up. I think it could be psychological, that if I believe that negativity (the things that I don't want, not ying and yang) can't come in, then I won't let it.

I agree with the symbollic meaning of the circle, which is where I find it's importance.

  • @Pagyptsian Lol! You can have them! They are klkl. I agree with the psychological side, that's where most of my understanding of magick comes from. =]

  • I think the circle is an ancient symbol (moon, sun, birth) and has been used for so many things whether they be sacred or functional like the wheel...it's considered a symbol of all things perfect too ... I think symbols like this are knowingly important...instinctive important and that's why we use them.

  • you pretty much got a good take on the subject, the ancient us of the circle in magic describes the boundaries of the aura. turn around 360 at any point and you describe a circle ancients observe the heavenly bodies and the passing of cycles which describe a circle. all of the above and everything you said is pretty much on point. it be what it be poo bear.. :)

  • For me the circle/sphere is everywhere. The circle of rebirth, within the animal kingdom the food chain (don't really consider myself a part of it though being I don't eat animals lol) The circle/sphere is by far for me the most magical shape. It has no points so for me it doesn't lock in stagnant energies. For me it does keep out all negeativity providing the negativity is not within myself. The Eart is our own sacred circle. We are dependent on two circles to exist. The sun and moon.

  • For me, the sacred circle is place where you can build positive energy and bask in positive. Even though you my dedicate that this a sacred circle/space, it will become negative over time, just by you entering with negative energy (such as anxiety, worries, ect) so you must cleanse the circle every now and again.

  • For me the circle represented protection as well as a place to build energy. The circle would be almost like a vacuum, where the pressure builds and builds until i'm ready to release it. It's also a symbol of wholeness and perfection to me it's all incompassing, never ending, no beginning and no end the ultimate symbol of life and the human experience and the spiritual experience.

  • My understanding of the reasoning behind why the used a circle, which I know you touched on, is that it represents infinity, no end, the cycles of life constantly running into and throughout one another, etc. For me, I like the idea of clarifying MY energy before I work, but I rarely cast a circle, per se. I kindof agree with Annika, in that i view the universe as sacred. I wouldn't personally work any magick if I didn't feel safe and comfortable, regardless of where I was.

  • The balance between good and evil is much closer in strength than many would know!! The magick circle is no more than an old superstition!! Therefore if a magick circle makes you more comfortable to have in place then make one!! It would take a whole lot more than a magick circle to keep out the real evilness that exists beyond the veil!! However I would employ light shields when spellcasting and making contact with the spirit world!! I do love to have a magick circle in place as well though!!

  • my idea of a sacred circle is basically like a sanctuary. Imagine it like when you live in a house where you just were in an argument and there's a lot of negativity just in the air, where do you go to cool off? Your bedroom. That's what I think of the sacred circle as. A portable safe area that can go with me anywhere.

  • I certainly don't have an experts opinion since I'm only on my year and a day study. but one thing that I learned about the sacred circle I wanted to mention was that part of the reason it is shaped like a sphere is to keep the energy being raised from getting stuck in corners like it would in a cube or some other shape. Just thought I'd mention that.
