A failed 1975 soapie from the makers of NUMBER 96 for Australia's Nine network commune of jean-making hippies that stars Tina Bursill, Patrick Ward, Tony Sheldon and Josephine Knur.
When "Division 4" was axed, this program was given as one of the reasons for the axing: "new drama". Nine was a master of the "epic programming fail" even then...
Worth noting that this (pilot) episode doesn't feature the theme music used in the series proper. Also worth noting that the clip is taken from a poor quality kinescope, rather than a 2" quad master...
@jiggarypokery I believe this pilot was produced Oct 1974. Aust TV was broadcast in black and white until Easter 1975. Starting late 1974 many shows were shot in colour, and some of that was broadcast in colour test b/casts in the lead up to the 1975 changeover. I read this show was produced in colour, but maybe the pilot was broadcast in black and white.
This is really interesting thank you. I am a fan of Tina Bursill so it was great to see her in a role I have never seen her in before. I wonder why it was shot in black and white? colour had been introduced by 1975 hadn't it? or had it?
@Conniptions886 Thanks for the info. I'd love to see a series proper episode of the series. I wonder if it was any better than the pilot?

What an awful show, no wonder it failed. Thanks for posting the clip anyway, it's always good to see these old shows.
