2 out of 3 Americans to starve to death?
Hungry people might go out to where food is now grown and attack those locations if necessary in order to get food, possibly making the locations less likely to be planted the next year.

I have a pecan tree I planted last year. If squarrels come to eat the pecans maybe I can shoot them and eat the squarrels. If the pecan tree does not make it try planting acorn tree or an oak that will also attract squarrels thou I live in the city limits maybe I need to get a pellet gun it makes no sound.
