The meaning of a song can also change overtime, or at least be perceived differently in different times. Don't allow some extinct notion of the past hold you back in enjoying and understanding the present. I'm sure green day intended to give the song new meaning consciously

im just happy that something good made it into pop-culture the fact that this is made is good for everyone unless the ones that only want freedom to exploit the weak

They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool.

John Lennon really nailed that one.

I wonder if you do? Who are you to say what John Lennon meant with this song? And why doesn't it apply to the video. ? The lyrics: A Working class hero is something to be. That is meant to be about the guys trying to fight for their country. They arent special, they arent politicians. They need the working class heroes. I believe it applies well

I doubt that Green Day were trying to 'steal' the song...otherwise they wouldn't have included a clip of the original at the end, clearly acknowledging the fact that John Lennon wrote it. This cover is their tribute to John Lennon, not an attempt to take credit for Working Class Hero.

Green Day lived at the same time and were big fans of the Beatles, so I assume yes

I 'really' appreciate the debate evolving around the Green Day vs. John Lennon thing, but aren't we forgetting about the aim of this song? There is stil fierce conflict in Darfur, the situation hasn't changed much since this cover came out...
