Formula SAE is an automotive racing competition that started in 1978 with four college teams and has now grown to more than 275 teams, including OSU.

The students build the car all year and race in competitions each spring. There are three competitions in Virginia, California and Michigan, said Arles Mauck, this years OSU FSAE chief engineer. The competition includes two categories, static events and dynamic events.

This means that the team is judged on how well it performs in competition as well as the planning process and raising the money to race.

OSUs FSAE team has 20 dedicated members from all different colleges and majors, all of whom are searching for real world application for their skills.

Every year The OSU Formula SAE team builds a new car from the ground up each year, and this years car is their tenth. There are few design limitations for the cars, so students are free to experiment and learn while they perfect their own unique designs.
