  • I don't get it you guys. I LOVED THIS MOVIE! I saw it when I was 12 after seeing the God-awful Left Behind movie. Then my grandpa told me there was an original film that had been made in the 70's. I bought it and then it was awesome! It's more exciting and certainly more entertaining than Left Behind. I don't know why everyone was so scared by it. It didn't scare me at all.

There's nothing sinister or anything about a retreat in itself, but showing that movie to a bunch of middle schoolers/high schoolers wasn't exactly the best idea. Our youth leaders were like, "Whoops..."

  • @heimbecker11

Er actually it's a Protestant thing and not a Catholic thing...nothing to do with race.

  • @TheBookWorm1718

Same reason as company retreats, it's a time for people to pause life for a few days and concentrate on a particular purpose--for companies it's building trust/friendship amongst their workers, and for churches/youth groups it's an opportunity to focus on the Bible and God. It's like a few days of hanging with friends, Q&A about God and life in general, seeking advice, renewing or making vows.

  • @Eruaphadriel Why do they call it a retreat?

  • I remember watching this as part of a retreat. Traumatized me...

  • @Cenamark2 That's what you believe that's fine, I'm not going to force you or anyone.

  • Okay, I have a question for the people who say it's not true. Some atheists when asked what IF someday millions of people DID vanish off the face of the earth, said they still wouldn't believe God was real or had anything to do with it, instead attributing it to aliens or a bizarre allergic reaction (huh?) So if someday about half the earth's population DOES just disappear, without a trace, only their clothes left where they stood, what would you believe then?

  • Maybe I'm alone on this. I did not see this movie as a child like a lot of others. I didn't even find out about it until I was a teenager. However, if I had seen this as a child, I really don't think I would've been scared of it. I was raised in a Christian household, but as kids we had tapes of cartoons of Bible stories, and I thought they were the most boring things ever made. This I probably would've found interesting at least.

  • @heathsawyer It is free will because WE determine what we are going to do, God may know what we're going to do but we don't, it comes down to the choices we make because if we just sit around waiting for God to do it for us, then nothing gets done. God made man and gave him a mind and the ability to use it.
