He was intended to be Barricade in the movie, but they changed his name because they thought it was to complicated to explain his backstory and explain why he wasn't a police car anymore. I'm guessing it had to do with the fact it takes place in China and an American Police car would stand out a bit? Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

Sideways is one of my favorite Decepticons, next to Soundwave and Starscream. Shame he had to die so quick in the movie.
