In the week leading up to Memorial Day 2010, The Reporter (Fond du Lac, Wis.) has undertaken a multi-media project that recounts Norberto Gonzalez Jr.'s journey to America.
His story is a testament to those who are willing to put everything--including their lives--on the line for the chance to carve out a life in which the only limitations are those that are self-imposed.
Called "Freedom," this five-part package will feature a daily online webumentary exploring the challenges Gonzalez faced in coming to America and then defending it. In addition, the newspaper will offer additional insights into a story that's a reminder of how much people are willing to pay for freedom when they've been denied it their entire lives.

  • Companeros, these fucking gusanos are full of shit. the only difference btween cuba and the u.s is, that cuba is poor and the u.s is rich bitch. if u want to rebelious in cuba , u go to jail. here in the u.s if u want to b rebelious they also put u in jail and be carefull they might say u r a terrorist. It is all a pile of shit. most cubans come to the usa looking for food, not political carreers. VIVA FIDEL motherfuckers, Patria o muerte venceremos y si no hay tiempo, pa la yuma nos hiremos.

  • @kerthialfad

    Discriminatory policy ? perhaps.

However we pay the price, a very good price, after the Bay of Pigs treason, a very well planned invasion, to establish once and for all, Fidel Castro regime....that's what I call, THE MEA CULPA of United States failure ( purposely) to support the first and last intent to rescue Cuba, from the international red menace.

  • Yes, all Cubans get to stay in the US. They never send them back. That is the law. The cuban adjestment act of 1966. No other nation is afforded such a special status.

  • @kerthialfad My wife and her family came from Cuba, we have a beautiful daughter, and we are both United States Marines. Im happy they couldn't send her back.

  • You cant say anything you want her in the US, either. Note, this guy needed no visa, no permission to enter the US, no need to claim political asylum, all he had to do , unlike any other foreigner, was touch his foot to US soil. Why do we have such an outdated, disriminatory policy? Makes non sense.
