That team was LOADED. My goodness...Lowell, Castillo, Lee, Pudge, Pierre, baby Cabrera and Conine with Beckett, Penny, Pavano, Willis, Urbina, and Looper pitching. They deserved their shot to defend. Maybe more so than '97, which was more of a mercenary-type team anyway.

@cbaldwinjr That team in my opinion was a huge disappointment; The 1997 team slumped to a much worser record the following season, but that could be attributed to the fact the entire team was sold off after their world series win, but the 2003 team pretty much had that core together for the following two seasons, and did nothing - which was a shame
