Created on May 5, 2010 using FlipShare.Pickwick dam on the Tennessee river.Free audio from Audionautix.Construction of Pickwick Landing Dam began in 1934 and was completed in 1938.The dam is 113 feet high and stretches nearly a mile and a half across the Tennessee River.Pickwick Dam's first turbine was the largest of its kind in the country when it was installed; its runner was more than 24 feet in diameter. New runners with a more efficient design were installed in the 1980s.

  • thats very cool, I have never seen a dam run a road in that way. I am a great lover of dams though. before the country became so security conscious I was able to take tours deep inside many dams that now you can only visit their small areas for public information. I miss the old days when you could just wander the halls and sit and listen to the hum of the water. thanks again. yours earl
