boneless method of pike filleting. Also pics of the fish I caught so far in 09. My camera work is far from perfect but hopefully you get the idea.

  • It's actually a better method to take the fillets of normally like any other fish, remove the ribs and then angle the blade and remove the y-bones. This vid is pretty old, the next time I keep a pike ill have to do another video. This method is basic and does work quite well, but does waste a little meat.

  • Does this work with large pickerel as well?

  • @ROFLpwnedvideos We don't have pickerel in Alberta, so im not sure if they have the same bone structure.

  • @moosehunter30 considering pickerel is not only a species in itself but it is a common name for walleye. i am in Saskatchewan and i know for a fact there is walleye in Alberta.

  • @lac365 Yes there is walleye in Alberta. Pickerel is a common eastern name for walleye. The question in regards to if this works on large pickerel leads me to assume they are talking about an actual pickerel which is an esox like a pike. A chain pickerel and a pike may have similar bone structure, but since we don't have them in Alberta I am not sure.

  • Its pretty obvious theres more then one way to clean a pike, if you have a better method then good for you.

  • @ROFLpwnedvideos Pickeral filets should be done completely different, more traditional than this. THIS is what we call a FIVE PIECE FILET, Pickeral should have only 2 pieces.

  • Your method of pike filleting is exceptional. thank you for posting...

  • @matthewthelewis really their is no wrong or no right one, next time think before you write anything budd.

  • walleye is way better then pike and perch is better then them all by far

  • Awesome video. Thanks. Now I can eat the pike and not only the walleye!

  • @matthewthelewis Moosehunter30 method is supreme. Wastes very little meat and is lightning quick. Not sure how much more meat you plan on getting off a pike.

Id rather see people keeping some smaller pike and utilizing them, this method is simple and quick.

  • would this work for catfish?
