@tpuahseiw While true, you see the same kind of industrial farming across the board from poultry to meat yet you can (and arguably should) eat red meat at a variety of donenesses. A lot of the reason for salmonella contamination in poultry is from industrial farming like you mentioned, but an other big part is the microscopic anatomical structure of poultry. It's highly conducive to bacterial contamination and coupled with poor handling it's just a lose-lose situation.

@Peppershibainu... cross contamination only became a serious problem after the late 1980s. working with raw chicken has always been something you should take great care while doing, but the prevalence of microbial born food illnesses only became a great problem about 20 years after this show aired. mostly, the blame should be laid at the feet of the so called "industrial chicken farms" that cram 1000s of birds into small spaces--thus causing the more rapid spread of disease.

I was a schoolgirl when this show--the color episodes at least--was in its original run. My mom used to watch it all the time (though she never seemed to learn from it...sorry, Mom) I miss this! :-)
