The homeless "Street Soccer" movement started several years ago in Europe as a way to combat the feelings of isolation and desperation felt by those experiencing homelessness. The idea was that the world's greatest and most popular game--football, futbol, soccer--was a way to reach affected people across the world and provide a sense of belonging, membership, focus and discipline, and establish appropriate reward for appropriate effort, while teaching important life skills that would help the individuals emerge from their current situation. This is a brief look at how the movement has taken root in Chicago.
