  • Increased visceral fat has been shown in the literature to lead to more health problems, compared to increased levels of subcutaneous fat. However, I want to make it clear that having increased levels of both is not desirable, and both can cause problems - not just increased visceral fat. Both really become a problem when you get into the realm of obesity

  • Yes, they both play a role - sorry if I did not clarify that in the video. However, the body does seem to have a preference for deposition and removal of fatty acids in subcutaneous stores. The subcutaneous layers provide a majority of heat retention during homeostasis - but certainly the visceral layers contribute. And then there is always brown adipose tissue as well...

  • Thank you for putting your delightful video out there. I am having problems with all of this due to medications I am on. Most people think that fat is fat. My pretty fat is gone + my belly is out. I can feel the six pack easily, but the fat around my organs makes me feel really fat (124 lbs, 5'8"). My belly button got pushed out (herniated). What a mess. Prediabetes. People!!! Get out there and enjoy your bodies. Low fat proteins, veggies and smaller amount of carbs, make it whole grain!

  • So subcutaneous is healthier?

  • I would think that BOTH Visceral and Subcutaneous fat help the body maintain body temperature in cold weather.
