the person has opened it and touched the main board when he has touched it electric currant has gone through and he has fucked it up he must of touched the main board or the hard drive if you are lucky. you can change the hard drive and it might work I don't no

I'm pretty sure the IBM T43 has a CD drive!

daaaa.....the laptop was certainly opened, and we don't know what they have done inside, you might want to go into bios and have a look.
BTW, you don't a HDD, it won't boot. it's that simple
