Five mid to low 13 quarter mile runs from the track a few weeks ago. The challange remains to be getting traction on an open diff and street tires. The car is a 1986 RX-7 with a 6 port turbo engine, small bridgeport, GT4088R at 13 PSI, custom exhaust and intake manifolds, Microtech LT8s and and too many other mods to list. Last dyno the car made 387 RWHP at 297 FT-LBs of torque at 13 PSI. The car makes too much power to get out of the 13s due to wheel spin, so the next upgrade is going to be a limited slip differential.

  • my fuel pump does the same wineeeeeeeee

  • @88rex1 Big pumps are loud. :-) Mine is rubber mounted, but at the time this video was filmed I had not put the interior back in the car. Now with the Dynamat and full interior it's just a slight hum inside the car.

  • I thought you were not allowed to run open exhaust at Sparta.....

  • @midgetmayo I don't think that they do.

  • Yeah, but that's the joke. He had an exhaust, a nice set of tires and possibly some stuff under the hood. He also did a burnout and launched well. I on the other hand was on low boost, skinny 215s, no burnout, launched like an idiot, missed two shifts, had to let off due to wheel hop, only ran a 13.4, and still beat him. Therein lies the funny.

  • @ry1991ca You're missing the joke. I launched horribly, missed two shifts, had to back off due to wheel hop and only ran a 14.6. Yet it was still half a second faster then the modified 5.0 Mustang. That's where the funny is.

  • Lol @ 5.0s and us in 1.3s :)

  • @aaroncake that is funny bc a mustang 5.0 would kill that shit hahaha

  • @vdub2002 At 6-8 PSI, an RTek would do just fine and you'd probably see a 50 HP gain. But the compression on the S5 engine is 9.7:1, which is pretty high for an ECU that only gives you basic controls, so you'd want to stick to low boost (assuming stock HT-18).

  • @aaroncake

I have an S4 block in my 89 GXL, and I've been resisting the urge to turbo it due to high compression. It's street ported and N/A isn't slow at all (surprising i know!).

Just wondering since it does run rich in the low end could I run 6-8psi and not need a EMF, maybe just rtek?

  • @vdub2002 I'm running Atkins 2MM apex seals. 3MM really isn't much of an upgrade because they are only marginally stronger, don't seal as well, and the machining needed on the rotors damages the groove that is hardened at the Mazda factory. Really the only reason to go to 3MM seals is if the rotors are already 3MM (older 13B/12A) or the rotors are too worn to accept 2MM seals.

  • idk if you still read these, but did you do the apex upgrade to the larger 3mm apex seals?
