  • @Gruenkreuz100 From my point of view I'm not because I'm thinking like an American. Here we have prople from many nations including from Germany and the Germans here no longer consider themselves German but Americans with a German heritage. The same is true for the Italians, Irish Chinese and so on. What you say may be true in Europe but not here.

  • @josephonwhidbey You are mixing up the words "state" and "nation". in 1871 a german state was build, but the german nation always was there. The germans called themself "germans" since the early medieval.

  • My error associated with the center of the universe quote. Nevertheless, I did enjoy our little chess game. BTW, my father's family is from Poland and my mother's from Austria. I'm an American born and bred and a loyal New York Yankee fan. I live on Whidbey Island Washington. You would be a great American if you were here. Peace.

  • @josephonwhidbey I never said Germany was the center of the universe. The french guy that you replied to said that. I just said that Germany contributed more to western society than at least Australia, Canada, New Zealand and that it contributed at least as much to western civilization than Britain. Now I want to leave you in peace and hope you realize that this discussion leads to nowhere since we are both to proud. Btw it was a nice daily routine to answer your comments. Alles Gute!

  • @DenverYellowStone To reply to each point; 1) I was discussing the accomplishments of both nations. 2) I claim no superior status for Britain only that they accomplished more then Germany. 3) That you speak multipal languages is not uncommon in Europe because the states are so close together. 4) You began this thread because you claimed that Germany is the center of the universe. Make your proof. 5) More people from all over the world want to move to America then any other place. Your turn.

  • @josephonwhidbey 1.) We were comparing Britain with Germany and you brought up "submitting to a dictator". 2.) You take it as a sign of superiority of Britain that im writing in english. 3.) I take it as a sign of superiority that I speak multiple languages. 4.) We can continue the discussion in german if you like.

  • @DenverYellowStone 1) I never mentioned Germany associated with her submitting to a dictator. You did. 2) The standard of living in what is today the British Commonwealth of Nations is higher then it could have been if those terratories were never colonized by Britain. 3) The colonies that gained their independance from Britain, especially in Africa are far worse off today then they were as colonies. And again I ask; in what language are you writing ? More to follow.

  • @josephonwhidbey I didn´t think about contributing to western civilization in terms of colonizing the world and spreading english culture. The fact that Germany submitted to a dictator has nothing to do with our discussion about contributing to western society and limiting Germanys history to 12 years is sort of pathetic. I also didn´t doubt that America was the "child of the UK".

  • @DenverYellowStone Your facts in part may be correct but your conclusions are wrong. America is the child of the UK and received her culture from her. John Loch, Adam smith, Thomas Payne to name just a few. Additionally, the colonies established by the UK circled the globe and became a great commonwealth of free peoples. Germany never achieved that. The English speaking peoples never submitted to a dictator as was the case with many other nations.

  • @josephonwhidbey By the way why would the Magna Charta be of any importance to western civilization? The american and french idea of human rights is more important to modern democratic nations. Also the romans already made a functioning table of laws. To come back to your "Germany wasn´t even a country" argument. It doesn´t matter my relatives were born in a place called prussian rhine province, nowadays still the rhineland -name doesn´t matter it is still german soil.
