This is a Dutch braid, not a French braid. French braid adds hair to the top and lays flat. Dutch braid adds from the bottom and pops out. I know you mention it is "maybe German" but I wanted to clarify for viewers.

Really difficult to follow. No tips on how to keep track of each strand, how to ensure the strands don't get dropped or how to keep tension even. This video just has a few products it wants to showcase. Disappointing, as I was following a hopeful link that stated this was an easy to understand video.
