CSX D942-13 lead by CSX SD70AC 4808 and CW44AC 383 take a long string of empty hoppers over the crossing on the west leg of the Hyattsville wye. This train was moving fast for this area but the engineer took time to give us a little extra horn salute as he passed. Also note that the bells on the crossing gates ring continuously here.

  • The gate arm appears short because of the perspective of the camera, and the angle of the crossing signal to the lens. The gate is actually long enough to cover the entire right side of the road as required by law. As far as the crossing bells continuously ringing, this should be a requirement in all states, as it is in CA, for the benefit of vision-impaired pedestrians. I have never agreed with the concept of the bells shutting off once the gates are down for that reason.

  • OK Thanks!

  • Wow I love how those hoppers just roll down the tracks! Awesome! Why is the arm of that crossing gate so short?

  • Awesome Video! Like the horn too!
