New Super Mario Bros. Wii - World 8-1 speed run

ALMOST got 429 ... there were enough possible improvements to get 429 ... i don't think 430 is possible. It's faster to complete this whole level with propeller mario ... so, we don't have to worry about picking up the propeller later. It only took me 5 attempts today to get this run ... with practice it's not hard, you just have to get a little lucky with the falling boulders.

I don't think the Propeller Suit is necessarily needed. I think it slows you down. You can jump straight through the fire and get hit, but it saves more time than your method. Like at 0:21 that would make you Super Mario again, and 0:45 would make you Small Mario, with a short invincibility moment to run through the fire at 0:50.

That's just my opinion. I'll try testing it later with Ice Mario.

well, this run was planning for a full game speedrun, and i would have propeller mario at this point. Did you see my new speedrun of this level?  i beat it in 430.

if you can do any better than this while taking hits, i'd love to see it. i never tried it, and can't see that it would be faster than the 430 i got

Around 0:28, would it not be faster to jump off the down slanted platform? It looks like when you run off onto the up slant you hit a bit of slowdown.

i do slow down just a bit running on that up slant, but i need to do that to set up my triple jump over the lava fountain. It's the only way i've found to set up the triple jump properly, and i only lose about a tenth of a second anyways, so no big deal.

@cojocoolio I somehow doubt the coding of your game disc is different than the coding on the poster's game disc. He's just figured out the parameters of the collision detection of the lava.

Yeah. I think about single level speedruns, not full game. I'm willing to try to get a faster time. I'm sure to mix in your strat somehow. Lol.
