Fragments of the all-night vigil kathisma
Kerzhensky (Old Believer) monastery chant.

Blessed is the man!
Blessed is the man, Alleluia!
That hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly!
That hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, Alleluia!
Salvation is of the Lord, and Thy blessings is upon Thy people!
And Thy blessings is upon Thy people, Alleluia!

Alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, o God! Alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, o God! Alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, o God!

Performed by the Nativity of Holy Theotokos cathedral choir(Russian Old-rite Orthodox Church) of Novosibirsk.

  • A good "performance", but I wonder why they make such a big deal about this being a unique rendition from a Kerzhenets monastery. Other than a few local ornamentations of the melody, it is almost note-for-note the same melody that is included in the Obikhod of Kalashnikov (Guslitskii tradition), a slightly simplified book of Znamenny Chant which is used in countless Old Believer parishes.

  • @Starover77 yeah, I was wondering about that also. I could not even recognize any "local ornamentations"... I thought it was just note for the same as the regular one.

Unfortunately I do not have too many good recordings of authentic singing, which is something that someone is going to help me to fix ;)

  • The style of singing is not typical of most Old Believer congregations in that it is too "academic". A less refined and precise style is typical. While the melody is fairly accurate in its rendition, it is performed too much like a concert piece than actual church performance (and indeed it is being performed in a concert of liturgical music, so there you have it). Sorry, but I don't find this recording impressive precisely because it is a lifeless academic concert piece.

  • @Starover77 well Siberian singing these days is pretty much like the one in Nizhniy Novgorod and Moscow, places that were influenced a lot by the academic musical schools. I don't find it that impressive either but I still like it =)

  • like the light of a salt lamp which is made from Himalayan rock salt for instance has allot of healing effects, right now I have four of them in my room and feel great.

  • nice, the lighting was to bright though or to white in color , lighting is connected to the mind and emotions the color and amplitude the light or by candle light makes it feel more mystic and connected to ways of an ancient past color therapy uses this approach ,a more orange yellow light gives a mystic feel , but then again the people with the camcorders probably wouldn't be able to record it all or it might be distorting for some
