Here's how to kick the dragon's arse in one of the best games ever - Moonstone.

Right at the start, move in close so the dragon lifts his head. Don't get too close and whatever you do, don't stop moving or risk a sly thrust of your sword at this point or he'll burn you from above or just eat you. Move back to the right of the screen and towards the back (so you have plenty of room to walk downwards in a moment), then wait for him to lower his head. Just as he pulls his head back to breathe fire, move downwards out of the way. Move towards the dragon, who - still breathing fire - should begin to level with you. When you reach his eye, use an overhead strike and chop him good. You can chance a second strike immediately, and keep going if it connects each time (in the video I managed to get him three times). If you miss, don't try another strike or he'll burn you. Just get back to the top-right corner of the screen and repeat the process.

I have tried this technique on both the PC and Amiga versions and it works (video shows the Amiga version); not just a glitch in my version. If you're quick, you won't sustain one hit so there is no need to carry the Talisman of the Wyrm. I have killed the dragon with only the basic sword and armour, so once you get the hang of it you're sorted. "Beware the dragon, whose dark shadow sweeps the land"... erm, it's like - dead?!

  • for anyone who would like to play this game again smoothly: Use WinUAE Emulator and download the relative ADF floppy files

  • Skyrim? Pshaawww...

  • Best game ever.

  • just think, im watching this video remembering that at the time, this game was the nuts, then i think i wonder what we'll all be playing to look BACK at games like LA noir the same way we do this!?

  • @elninho2009

I wrote another reply to this somewhere. Edit the .cfg -file. Change the "sound" -parameter from "PC" to "SOUND BLASTER" or "ADLIB".

  • @elninho2009

You'll need to edit the MOON.CFG file manually. Replace "PC" with "ADLIB" - not the best, but at least better than the PC speaker emulation on Dosbox.

Most of the PC-Versions of the Amiga games seem to have shitty sound and/or graphics... Sorry, but I can't help you.

Oh, and slaying the dragon was indeed easy.

  • guys i have a problem with this game.. the sound is shit!! i play it with dosbox 0.73. Do i need aanother program to hear the real sound? thanks you!!

  • Sword of Sharpness ftw
