Dr Giles Mohan, reader in the politics of International Development, gives a 90 second lecture on China's involvement with Africa and why it may or may not be a good thing for the region.
The Chinese billions given to Africa is not necessarily aid, beyond saying it is, to deflect criticism. Although not necessarily a direct benefit to the general population, the general population is now richer that it was because it has access to fuel oil and other products, irrespective of unspecified, environmental inconveniences. Nigeria is cited as being oil rich, but if its oil output, at $100.0 a barrel, was equally divided amongst the Nigerian population, it would be about $2.0 a day.
This is very brief but you can learn a lot from it.
