Japanese battery powered toy train and tracks called: Plarail, made by Takaratomy. Bought this for my son while living in Japan. Great fun toy that utilizes your child's imagination. Highly recommend.

  • I bought my plarail stuff in Japan. I'm not sure how long they've been selling plarail in the US. You can buy limited plarail sets and parts through amazon as well. The selection is nowhere near what they offer in Japan.

  • Hi, I saw an article on the wet that Plarail items were going to be officially imported by Tomy again. This was in September. A few days later I found them at my local Toys'R'us. However, only a limited selection is available (the new Hero Rescue series, based on a TV show). I want plenty more ;-). I like the fact that there are so many accessories available (in Japan) and that they are fairly inexpensive. I built a huge layout with less than what I would have spent for a basic N gauge set.

  • @didimo1963 - The vast amount of parts, trains and tracks are difficult to get here in North America. They have massive plarail sections in major Japanese department stores like; Mitsukoshi, Takashimaya and Matsuzakaiya.

  • Hi,

some Plarail items are now sold in the US, only at Toys'R'US, and only the Hypercity Rescue items. I've posted a video with my setup. I wish however they imported bullet trains and city trains, and all the accessories that they have in Japan. Maybe you could do focus on those in your online business?

  • @didimo1963 - Fantastic advice. I have sent Takaratomy an e-mail about how to become an independent authorized retailer in North America and I have not heard back from them. I'm going to have to send another e-mail and this time in Japanese. How did you initially find their product and what do you like about it?

  • How did you know that Plarail Tomy trains are in US?

  • Yes, I'm not very happy with the limited selection here in the US. I posted a comment about that on their Facebook page, and Tomica USA responded that they plan to release more sets, trains and accessories.

HOWEVER, since I started checking out the Japanese sets, trains and accessories on Ebay (shipping is expensive as hell!), I found that I don't like the American packaging at all. Japanese Plarail items are much more appealing in many different ways. I'd definitely buy Japanese over US plarail
