I made this in my free time when I was bored.

I did this with a spare S478 heatsink and a broken motherboard. I did not have a processor at the time, but installation of the heatsink is the same if you did have a processor under the heatsink. If there is a processor under the heatsink during the installation, the clip levers on the heatsink will require somewhat more tension to move them to their right position, but it is not hard at all and will still require very little effort, unless you were a very weak person.

The heatsink removal method shown in this video does work, I did it when I had to remove the old clogged up heatsink from an old computer to replace its S478 heatsink.

  • thank you!

  • Gracias / Thanks from Spain!

  • what clothes were you wearing? XD

  • thanks, you helped me

  • O.o exelente

  • Why did you use a synthesized voice? I could hear sound, so you do have a mic. Unless, of course, you cannot use your voice, or (you believe that) your speech is too unclear.

  • @lookbacktime Ya, I am thinking of sticking another fan / heatsink on it. I am tired of when I want to clean the fan, I need to take the whole thing apart to get to the heatsink, and then waste yet more expensive arctic silver. I hope it fits, as it has the metal push clip things to put it on. But I dont know if I would have to change the whole heatsink mount.

  • @juniortore1 --Yeah, undoing those four clips is ridiculously awkward, especially if the mobo is still in the case. I always need a screwdriver to pry them out.

  • @brianthesnail1234 -- You are right. With the stock Intel thermal interface material, removing the heat sink usually results in the CPU coming out as well stuck to the bottom. It's happened a few times to me. Bad design by Intel. This doesn't seem to happen if something like Arctic Silver has been applied however.

  • @juniortore1 well its almost impossible to remove with out damaging the socket or the heatsink. socket A and 370 had the worst heatsink mounting ever.
