1955 Plymouth Belvedere (not really Cuban but it was modified with a Perkins P4 Diesel engine at one point, hence the nick "Cuban" :)) just bought by my friend as a parts donor for his '55 Dodge Kingsway.
Thanks, but I assure you that this car (as all such cars in India) never came with the Perkins engine that you mention, nor was badged as such. All mopars in India came with 6 cyl. chrysler engines only. A lot of them here, once obsolescent, were owner-modified to run on Diesel engines, because of fuel efficiency.
Perkins made Diesel engines meant for mini-trucks in India. Another option was a local make, Kirloskar, made for agricultural vehicles.
You have an extremely rare car. Chrysler Corporation in fact built Perkins Powered Plymouths for Export in 1955 and 1956 only. Many were sold in Europe as taxicabs. There is a book on the history of Plymouth citing these cars. The only other known survivor is a 1956 in Canada. Usually these cars came with a Perkins emblem on the trunk lid. There should also be a set of pull and control knobs at the base of the steering column. This is a piece of automotive history.
