@bigggyd I don't think the waves go through the center. Even in the center the pressure is really high; So high, in fact, that the inner core is solid. The waves go deep into the earth and get refracted (because of the density).

Density does not increase wave velocity rather the increase in rigidity and incompressibility compensates for the density increase, and therefore the net effect is to increase wave velocities. You can see this by looking at the velocity equations for both p and s waves.

Another great video Mr. Khan. One quick question though. If this was the real earth, would the waves begin to curve back after they got through the center (because the material becomes less and less dense)?
