Karen Davis is a friend to domesticated fowl like no other. Thanks to Karen Davis, chickens and turkeys are now front and center on the animal rights agenda. When Karen Davis was first formulating the idea to start an advocacy group for domesticated birds, advisors told her: "people don't care about chickens." Now, thanks to Karen Davis, everyone in animal rights cares about chickens. This is a great person you are about to hear. You are about to see why requisite righteous indignation can be mighty persuasive. Karen Davis is a prolific author, magazine editor, campaigner, advocate, champion, and cajoler for domesticated fowl. She is the founder (since 1990) and head of United Poultry Concerns. Karen Davis and United Poultry Concerns (UPC) launched, led, and won the campaign to end the U.S. egg-industry practice of forced-molting hens by starvation. This is monumental. In a world where victories are so often nothing to sqauk at. Karen Davis has moved mountains. This is a great treat to hear her today. And I, Pamela Rice (organizer of this event), am personally honored that Karen Davis has been at all 5 Veggie Pride Parades in NYC. She simply always goes the distance. I give you Karen Davis.
