H Nisar: Why Muslims Are So Backward?

Hasan Nisar - highly regarded Pakistani analyst and columnist - describes the factors responsible for the backwardness of Muslims around the world. According to him, Muslims are: (a) deliberately kept in ignorance by their leaders (via distortion of history and facts) as a means to rule them; and (b) prevented from improving their present conditions through constant emphasis by religious leaders on the after-life. He explains that in order to catch up with the West, Muslims must: (1) learn to live in the present with an eye towards a better future (while being conscious of their past); and (2) place an almost exclusive focus on acquisition of science and technology. This interview was recorded on "Aghaz" program in Pakistan in summer 2009.

Muslims contibuted a lot during the 8-9th century in mathematcis, astronomy, science and philosphy. It was muslim scholars in baghdad that rescued the greek texts of plato and socrates and gave it back to europe that was declining into dark ages. The muslims translated hindu and indian mathematics and via the arabs gave arabic numerals to europe. Indian mathematics that came thru silk route was improved and the word Algebra is arabic and came from muslims. At the moment muslims are confused!!

I am an Hindu and Indian and I do want to clarify something here as a student of history. I agree that at the moment muslims are caught in a very dark state of mind and I won't comment if Islam is the cause of this backward thinking. I disagree with the speaker when he asks "What have muslims given to the world ?" He says muslims have given nothing to the world like atom or engine etc. I beg to disagree (continued above)

Excellent ... I am an Indian Hindu. Butprasti itni khatarnak nahin hain. Scientific Analysis by a Muslim Scholar. Wow. Because even in Hinduism ( ADVAIT) ultimately says GOD is formless. GOD is ONE. But for a common man Butprasti is better than HUMANPRATI. Which is main downfall of Islam. Ellite Rulers of Muslim Community specially designed it to keep the masses uneducated. Sufism tried to break it but failed.

@myacirkhan there is a big difference between muslim inventions, and arab/persian inventions. Infact most scietific knowledge in the ancient Muslim world was because of the sophisticated persian race, not because of some backward Bedouin malikite arabs.

There is a lack of self-confidence in muslms and the leadership in muslim contries is bad. i disagree with hassan miser saab the are muslim countriesv that are happy like turkey and maylaisa the leadership need to be good and you will see a change
