I have always loved Aretha Franklin. She has sung the soul of a people and a nation for over 40 years. It is great to hear her sing. I also love the divine Karen Clark Sheard. This is a great song but Aretha almost destroys the duet with over singing. She could have pulled back about 20% and let Karen be heard. You can hear the overdubs that Aretha did later to make sure that Karen is not equal to her. It is a shame. This could have been so much better.

@cleoharvey Yes, this is true. Aretha has stated during the promotion of this album that she had gone back periodically to update & add to her vocals on this album. This album's material, including this duet, is at least 5 years old. I have an Aretha interview from 2006 that first mentions this duet and title of the cd. Her issues with the label and distribution is what held this album off for so long.

@cleoharvey But on the other hand, I know that this is KCS favorite singer of all time and a dream come true moment for her. So I'm certain she would've been just as honored if she only got to share 2 seconds with her. I know how Aretha can be and I figured KCS would naturally take the backseat for her. So I was not as disappointed because I did not expect any different. I still like the song and I especially enjoy the vamp portion.

Why is it that when Aretha sings with someone. She's always portrayed as she's trying to out sing that person. It's soooo stupid to say that. Yes, I said it! Aretha has always sung her heart out. She did it in her prime. And until God calls her home. She'll keep on doing it. The people who sing with Queen Aretha know this. The people who love Aretha know this. To all haters know this. If you could sing like Aretha you'd be doing the same thing. Please stop trying to find faults and just enjoy.

I love both singers but the truth be told if this was Karen's absolute favorite singer she would have done her normal and gave ree ree the business. I'll also add that karen would not have been able to handled ree ree in her prime but now karen is thee baddest.

Why is Aretha over singing Karen???????????? Why even ask her to do the song w/ you if ur gonna sing over her throughout the whole song!!!!!! I'm not diggin this :(
