I'm amused by collections of songs that share similar structures. This is a (very small) compilation of pieces with verses oscillating between D major and G major with a chorus primarily built on E minor and A major. Each plays on its own unaltered timeline allowing the composition as a whole to shift in and out of phase with itself.
My favorite part is the end of the swell around 4:10 where Adam Duritz is calling out "I'm down on my knees" as Michael Stipe further clarifies with "sometimes." (Bobby, thanks for pointing to that section.)
Bright Eyes
"Lua"
I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning (2005)
REM
"Everybody Hurts"
Automatic for the People (1992)
Counting Crows
"Sullivan Street"
August and Everything After (1993)
really, really wonderful and insightful
you must know about John Oswald and his Plunderphonics...
Also, two great pieces by Charles Mingus : "Septemberly" and "All The Things You C-Sharp Minor", which each meld pairs of similar compositions.
