  • It's not really the music mixes that are the problem, it was the lack of focus and passion. She did this same program at Skate America and the difference is astounding compared to this. Take a look at it and you'll see what I mean.

  • i pity Tonya. so much heartbreak. so much frustration. yet could have been an olympic medalist.

  • @ralphyization The Salt Lake City pairs event was no scandal at all. It was hyped up by the North American media. Sale/Pelletier executed a wrong lift in the free, and no one mentioned that. They also both fell in the short program and were still second which is an even bigger scandal imo. They should not have even been in contention for gold after the short, so there really was no scandal. It was hyped by media, and unfortunantly the IOC and ISU fell for the pressure. :-/

  • @ralphyization If it weren't for the scandal she probably would have gone into commentating and I think she would have been good at it! I think Tonya will always have fans because there's a feeling that Golooly and Smith were the sole perpetrators and that Harding could have won fair and square because she's so talented. LOL she probably still can do a triple axel!

  • @victoriaindigo I just kind of wish she would have been the "rags to riches" story, I guess. It would have been pretty cool, if she would have actually gone on to do something with her talent. I wish she hadn't screwed up. I really wished she would have kicked some serious butt!

  • @ralphyization So true

  • @victoriaindigo What a waste, eh? Against all odds, she DID go far, though. But life seemed to screw her up.

  • @ralphyization I've always felt more sorry for Tanya. Nancy's parents totally supported her ice skating career from day one. Tanya had the opposite, and she fell into the wrong crowd.

If the attack had never happened I can imagine Tonya being an amazing commentator, being the 1st American female to do a triple axel in competition.

  • @victoriaindigo To be honest, I thought she "played up" the victim role, a bit. Maybe it's my hockey background, which, I should say, doesn't promote cheaters. Hockey players used to be able to "achieve justice" on the ice. Just saying, Kerrigan didn't seem to be affected by the whole thing. She skated like a figure skater should skate. I feel more sorry for Tonya Harding. her upbringing, to go that far, and DO that??!! I wonder, what if the tables were turned? Who would be where?

  • @ralphyization What's interesting is that the new scoring system is more objective. Gone is the "artistic impression" mark. I've heard Scott Hamilton and other commentators complain about that.

I'm not a huge Nancy Kerrigan fan. Her wailing "why, why" when she was attacked always seemed OTT to me. And ironically her holier than thou stance afterward gave her more confidence on the ice than all the sports psychologists she'd been seeing to combat her stage fright performance issues.

  • @victoriaindigo I think it kind of "tainted" them all. There's already a contingent that believes it's not a "true" sport, because it's judged, and not measured in real time, or by a "true" scoreboard. I'm on the fence, while it involves athletic ability, NO doubt, it also has a measure of subjectiveness to it. Remember the Jamie Sale and David Pelletier scandal in Salt Lake? Ever since then, I kind of question in my mind, how "legit", these judges are...
