NOMINATION: GET BENT ACTIVE ARTS SOCIETY

Hello, we are Aiden and Mandy and along with our friends -- and under the direction of Lisa Kilgour -- we are nominating the Get Bent Active Arts Society for the Joey's Community Revival Project. We are two of hundreds of people who have benefited from the Get Bent Active Arts Society.

The Get Bent Active Arts Society is a non-profit organization with a board of directors. These people are volunteers who are passionate about supporting arts, youth, culture and healthy activities to better our community and communities everywhere.

The Get Bent Active Arts Society supports three important community programs:

1. Youth Development Workshops

We are taught leadership and mentoring skills so that we can teach workshops in schools and for various youth groups. We talk about self--esteem, asset--building, body image, anti--bullying, self--acceptance and responsible choices. We use belly dancing to teach youth to love their bodies, and we show teens that the models in magazines are NOT what they seem.

We believe when youth have greater self-esteem, more confidence and are taught to accept themselves and others, they are happier and more successful people and there is less bullying. The Board of Directors will allocate $5000 to the workshop program. That's enough money for us to visit 18 schools and youth groups over two years!

2. Touring Performances

Every year, the Get Bent Active Arts Society partners with the Get Bent School of Belly Dance & Performing Arts School to present their high--energy Bollywood Bellydance performance tour to 12 different communities. In every city they visit, one local performance group has the opportunity to partner with the Get Bent Active Arts Society. Partnering with local talent unites communities to create fun--filled and performances that highlight each community’s arts, culture and diversity.

Further, local audiences get to see their city's unique talent on--stage under bright lights, and realize how fortunate they are to have such great entertainers. With the guidance of the Get Bent Active Arts Society, local groups gain experience to put on larger shows and succeed outside their community. The Board of Directors will allocate $10,000 toward to the touring performances. This is one quarter of the program's annual budget.

3. Scholarships

The Get Bent Active Arts Society strongly believes all youth should have equal opportunity to participate in positive, value-based programs. Each year numerous scholarships are awarded to a variety of positive programs. The Get Bent Active Arts Society will put the final $10,000 towards their scholarship program.

That’s enough for forty $250 scholarships, to be awarded over the next two years! The Get Bent Active Arts Society will use the money from the Joey's Community Revival Project to support numerous communities and provide TWO YEARS positive workshops and programs!
