smile though your heart is aching... ...
artist nat king cole
words by john turner and geoffrey parsons
music by charlie chaplin
"Smile" is a song based on an instrumental theme used in the soundtrack for the 1936 Charlie Chaplin movie "Modern Times". Chaplin composed the music, while John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title in 1954. In the lyrics, the singer is telling the listener to cheer up and that there is always a bright tomorrow, just as long as they smile.
The song was originally sung by Nat King Cole, charted in 1954. It was also covered by Cole's daughter, Natalie, on her 1991 album.
lyrics:
Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

Two childhood favorites. "Smile" and "Clair de Lune". Could sing or hum them before I could talk. Or walk. Amazed at the memories formerly forgotten, now re- lived through these. Enjoy.

Chaplin believed that laughter makes difficult moments in life easier. Moreover the quote above is a quote given from the perspective of a director, since close-up and long-shot are film lingo. I don't remember where he said that, or where I've read it, but that's my dearest quote from Chaplin, and the best sentiment ever to have in life. It goes also with this song, that he composed, smile no matter what. He was a brilliant, beautiful man.

I like singers like this so many hollering heads on tv anymore screaming out loud sounds until there eye balls pops out and almost bleed....why do they do that? this is singing not a hollering real loud....Tell a musical story gentel and with graceful application...its much more affective.

why can you blame a bunch of words its like this when a man killed another man using his gun and when he realizes it he choose to blame the gun can the gun make any actions to solve his problems no the man is to be blame because of his irresponsinle action he killed his own kind of human being and like war the soldiers are the toys and the leaders are the user
