My Baratza Maestro conical burr grinder grinding Jones Coffee's Madison Roast, a Vienna & French Roast blend of Guatemalan beans. The roastery is in Pasadena, CA. It was roasted to the "30" setting, somewhere in the range of a French Press coarseness. Approximately 10 grams of coffee.

  • Hi, I was curious if you have tried this with espresso?

  • yes, and it works very poorly. The maestro lets you adjust it to a finer setting, but even that doesn't work to pull an even-close-to-being-decent espresso. This grinder works great for a french press or a pour over, like a Chemex I use.

For espresso, you've really got to upgrade to better equipment. I've got a Mazzer Mini for espresso, and the two are incomparable. The Mini costs about six times as much, but is what is used at world class espresso bars.

    Good luck!

  • Oh ok! Thanks for the info. Is there any way you could do a video showing how fine this grinder can go? I'd love to see. My espresso machine is lower end, and the pressurized basket can actually take a bit bigger grind. The very fine grinds actually clog the basket.

    Thanks!
