fast boot up debian lenny lxde in less than 38 seconds (complete cold boot - all applications are ready and extremely fast) on hp 530 notebook.
Boot improvements are made setting parallel boot shell, configuring init scripts, redhead, and system clock, and also using lxde instead of gnome (in gnome boot is 45 sec,). I hope some other users (especially linux users -arch and gentoo) can show better performance and explain me how to..

  • My HP530 boots Ubuntu 9.04 (mind you, Gnome) in 30 seconds, if you boot Debian with LXDE in 37 seconds then there's something wrong with your configuration.

    But Windows has a faster EPS*.

  • I boot my debian in 10 seconds, with samba, cups, gdm3, networking, alsa, ip forwarding + iptables rules, and uvesa, that console is nasty.

    Ubuntu is for kids.

    Nuff said.

  • Sabayon Linux, IBM Thinkpad R40 1.3Ghz, 768Mb RAM, 80Gb hd, with this machine and an amazing setting on my init's and a kernel compiled from the source (not generic or binary), I achieved 23 sec of boot time... I will make a video of this achievement and post it here.

  • Ubuntu 9.04 boot faster than the older version. My 6 years old laptop with PM 1.2GHz 1GB ram laptop, 80GB 5400rpm HDD can boot from put the button to full GUI in about 17 to 20 sec. with xubuntu. so...
