As Dave deals with Andrea's new crony Steve, he tries hard to get Matthew his job back even though he's getting no help from Matthew. Meanwhile, Bill sets up a piano around the station to try a new career in political satire. Jimmy brings a camera crew into the office to film a documentary about himself.

Instead of the usual opening, the credits run over a scene of Joe removing Matthew from the building and depositing him in a garbage can.

Khandi Alexander doesn't appear in this episode. Her name also doesn't appear in the opening credits.

Jimmy: I think Mr. DeVille is ready for my close-up or whatever the hell I'm saying.
Jimmy mangles a quotation from Billy Wilder's movie classic Sunset Boulevard (1950). The correct quotation, as delivered by Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, is "All right, Mr. de Mille, I am ready for my close-up." The Mr. DeMille referred to is Cecil B. DeMille, the legendary director whose career stretched back into silent movie days. In fact, he is credited as the first movie director to shoot a movie in Hollywood. Today he is best known as the director of the Biblical epic The Ten Commandments(1956).

Paul Gleason(Steve)was best known for his roles in Trading Places, The Breakfast Club, and the first Die-Hard movie, as well as many others. He passed away May 27, 2006. in Burbank, CA. Just 18 days after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, which is a rare form of lung cancer linked to asbestos exposure.

  • Imagine how much success Bill would have had from 2000-2008 with that career

  • Yes, he was so talented and funny he would of eventually had his own show 'The Phil Hartman Show' or something like that. I also believe if he was still around this show would of made it close to 10 seasons, with no help from that rotten network NBC of course.

  • er, I meant the political songs but I agree, without him Newsradio just wasn't the same, Phil is the best.

  • lol Oh, the political satire routine. Yes, that would of made Bill the character a big success.

  • I am not sure if you mentioned it, but this episode is called "Public Domain" because all of the songs Bill plays are public domain.

  • Good note.

  • This show was only on for five seasons and that garbage "According to Jim" has been on for decades (or it seems that way) - go figure.

  • don't you... forget about me...

    don't don't don't don't don't you

    forget about me.

  • I never seen that show myself but it only has 8 seasons.

As a wise man once said put your hand on a hot pan and a second seems like an hour. Put your hand on a hot lady and an hour seems like a second.

Newsradio is the hot lady of course lol.

  • Hey, it's the principal from the Breakfast Club!

  • I always find it odd that Dave has a World's Greatest Mom trophy in his office. I mean, I know he loves his mom, but shouldn't his mom have it?

Classic episode though. Love this show more than any other.
