A 160 mile beach and road event over a rough course that pitted stock cars against each other at speeds up to 140 mph. This was when stock car racing was raw and drivers weren't millionaires.

  • I'm not sure that it would bring back the viewers but I think it's a lot more exciting. This is why I like the Baja 1000 race, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and Sports Car Club of America events -- even historic racing -- there's something really raw and challenging about those events that you don't see in NASCAR, drag racing, F-1 or Indy racing.

  • I think this is way better racing than we see today.

  • Nascar needs to bring back Stock Car racing. A series of races using new Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, and Chargers competing on the track!

First year, American only, after that, all stock cars welcome...

  • @carsbyjeff Rust on Tuesday! lol

  • just have to rember that it was based on stock cars and production motors availbe to the normal public and the size of the crowd in a new sport to the beach

  • put a restrictor plate on it

  • LOVE IT!!! My Dad & I were at this race! We even went to the opening day of the Daytona International Speedway in 59. " Fireball" Roberts was the king of the pack back in those times in his black & gold Pontiac. There were also motorcycle races at this same beach race way which was on A1A right near Inlet Harbor. Not much protection for fans viewing the race, but a grand time was usually had by all.

  • This video is awsome I have a 57 Pontiac 2 dr hardtop and it is a great car. Wish new cars had to still try and drive NASCAR corse like this they would just fall apart don't think any one would make it to the Finnish line.

  • Paul Goldsmith was wheelin that pontiac. cool video
