Thomas Buergenthal, now a Judge in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, tells his astonishing experiences as a young boy in his memoir A LUCKY CHILD. He arrived at Auschwitz at age 10 after surviving two ghettos and a labor camp. Separated first from his mother and then his father, Buergenthal managed by his wits and some remarkable strokes of luck to survive on his own. Almost two years after his liberation, Buergenthal was miraculously reunited with his mother and in 1951 arrived in the U.S. to start a new life.

Now dedicated to helping those subjected to tyranny throughout the world, Buergenthal writes his story with a simple clarity that highlights the stark details of unimaginable hardship. A LUCKY CHILD is a book that demands to be read by all.

  • @TheMrSuperzilla Don't be sorry. It was a bit of a rant on my part. Let's just all be grateful that he told his story. To me it is far more inspirational than any gospel. Good luck to you my friend.

  • @consortium1979 Yeah... I didn't comment that. I forgot to log off and a guest at my house posted that. Sorry.

  • @TheMrSuperzilla While there were some lucky breaks T.B. survived some of the worst events in human history and became the man he is because of his own strength, intelligence, sense of justice and morality and as a result of various acts of human kindness shown to him along the way. To suggest that he was chosen by God or that he is somehow lacking because he has not accepted his saviour serves to detract from his immense achievements. What about the 6m who didn't make it. Were they not chosen?

  • das Buch ist großartig, ich habe geweint, als ich es gelesen habe!

Ich bin stolz auf "tommi" er ist für mich ein "großer" Mann

  • Just finished reading this book!! An incredible story of a child chosen and protected every step of the way by God to be a mighty champion for human rights. Praying that he will come to realize that he has a divine calling in a troubled world and that he will come to acknowledge and accept his Saviour before it is too late.

  • How beautiful is this man. I have not read this book yet but I intend to. It has not been easy to come by. I think those who have experienced such horrors are the only ones that can really write about it truthfully. God bless him for the wonderful work he does.

  • Just finished the book. I really appreciate the book. He was not gorey, just told his story through the eyes of a young child.

    You'll enjoy reading this.
