Great loading screen, great music, great graphics and a great game. This version has a few different screens that people, who are used to the 48k version, won't have seen.

  • Just found this, Thanks Spinny.

  • I was expecting more screens in the main gameplay area. Going down the well is just suicide, unless you use the scroll. There is nothing in that area anyway.

  • my favorite game, i wish they could do a remake of this.

  • Great game. Maybe someone has already done a remake but can't release it due to copyright.

  • From what i've heard cause i don't bother playing this type of games myself .they said this game is a legend @ its type.and verry difficult.

Nice 2 see the 128k. version .I don't think i ever had it in my collection.

    Good post Spinny !

  • The only difficult thing about it is towards the end of the game. Most of the puzzles can be worked out but it does take a lot of playing to get anywhere.

  • Commodore 64 fanboys - they just didn't get it, did they?!

It was the fact that the Spectrum's hardware WAS so limited that meant coders had to work harder to make a great game, often finding clever ways around the machine's flaws. It made them better coders.

C64 coders had everything on a plate - hardware sprite handling, a superb sound chip, etc. This often made them complacent and lazy to the extent that, proportionally, there were probably more poor games on the C64 than on the Speccy.

  • Thanks for uploading this game. What an absolute classic, really showed off what the Speccy could do and the 128k version was fantastic. Many fond memories playing this back in the day.

  • I can't belive people who says that Spectrum 48k (or higher) had better games than Commodore 64. Heck, they suck. Colors changing on character as it moves, sometimes it can not be seen due to blend inns with background. No sprites. Bad sound. Few colors. What is there to like about it? If this is the best game on spectrum - well, it says a lot. Grief.

  • Amazing game, i finished it a few times back in the day. Used to love seeing how many objects i could cram in a room before it ground to a halt. Also remember putting tables/chairs on top of guards bodys to stop them respawning. The fact the world was persistent with objects staying where u put them when u entered/exited a room was also quite advanced for the time. Probably the best game on the spectrum in my opinion.

  • Swedish game, yeaaaah

  • One of my favorites for my old retired zx spectrum

  • So many memories!!

  • @SPeacock i really am not sure about this but i know i did not finish the game back then,it was many years ago so i cant remember although some of these games were just to hard to finish especially when playing as a kid but there could be an issue perhaps in some early Version of the game.

  • @Realmasterorder I heard the C64 version cannot be completed (without a cheat device) due to a bug which occurs near the end of the game, preventing passage to the upper levels of the castle/village/manor/whatever. Is it true?

  • The first game I remember that even at the age of 12 made me realise that computer games could make you think and it was a genre of enertaimnet would last you into middle and old age.
