Merlin_Suite del Recuerdo_4 Carnavalito.wmv

Once again life has kept me away from YouTube for the past few months, but I have still been diligently practicing. Here is a little teaser showing what I have been working on lately -- Suite Del Recuerdo by Jose Luis Merlin. This has been an incredibly fun project for me because the music is full techniques like rasgueados and string tapping that I have never attempted before.

The fourth movement - Carnavalito -- is the fastest piece I have ever attempted and has been the biggest stumbling block for me. In the video I'm playing at about 2/3 the recommended tempo but I decided that is going to have to be good enough for now. Getting it any faster will take a lot of time but I will continue to work on it and hope to eventually improve on this recording. The introduction and conclusion to the movement contains several measures of 32nd notes during which the thumb repetitively sweeps the fourth through the sixth strings. When played at full tempo it makes the guitar produce a delightful hum that I hope to produce someday.

I sat down in front of my computer this evening to check the AV settings on my webcam and recorded this performance on the first take. I didn't intend this to be the finished product but the performance was pretty clean and that NEVER happens on the first take, at least not for me. So I decided to go ahead and upload it.

I hope to get the rest of the suite recorded and uploaded over the next few weeks.
