Two examples of the offside rule. The first, with a pass off the foot, is clearly offsides. The second, with the ball coming off a header, isn't an intentional pass but still counts as a pass; the referee fails to correctly call offsides.

  • @CodyZamboni Getting rid of it would completely degenerate the game. With no offsides attackers would be free to mark and hassle goalkeepers, and so long balls forward would become the norm. Tactics and game flow would be awfully disrupted. A total mess!

  • It isn't "offsides." It's "offside."

  • @barcaboy0102 the keeper touching it makes NO difference the key time is when Djourou heads it. THAT is the touch that counts and at that point Gallas is offside. When I was a boy (35 years ago, there WAS a rule "playing onside" that meant if a touch was made by a defender the offside player was played onside. That went LONG ago.

  • @landovers I'd expect that teams would have to react by keeping a couple of defenders in the box at all times. It would be impossible to defend the middle of the field. So instead of long balls, teams would just dribble it up the field with ease until they got to the box. The game would look more like hockey.

  • @TheFraz13 hmm okays :\ i always thought it did thankyou for letting me know :)

  • @barcaboy0102 It doesn't matter.

  • @engendrox Thank you for clearing that up for me,Engendrox.

Peace to you too! : )

  • @miles2057 nope... it is offside when the attacker whos going to receive the ball its after the line of the last defender on the other team at the moment when the pass occurs... if the attacker receives alone coz hes faster theres no problem with that or if the the ball bounces from a player of the other team its not offside either...

    hope this makes sense...

    peace...

  • I've never really took the time to really understand what off side is until today when I decided to watch this video.

Basically, the way I understand it now is Forward who wants to kick a goal must have at least 2 players, 1 Defender and goal keeper between himself and the goal in order to kick a valid goal.

Am I correct? If not, please let me know where I went wrong?

    Thank you.

  • @pmpjr Most of the times an offside call isn't a mistake of the defense. Have you ever played the game? Defenders usually move up all the way to the middle line to force you to go back. I played forward for a long time and defenders are trained to set you offside, e.g. you position yourself, wait for the pass und suddenly all defenders move forward and you are offside. They practise that. And it forces you as a forward to watch and think and be creative.

  • ACtully number 2 isnt offside because it touches the keepers right hand glove after it was headed by djourou playing gallas onside
