Ekphrasis
I watch these young poets wander through a gallery like orchestras of pocket change. The boys, straight bored dream into female figures. They stare a bit too long at abstract shapes trying to find females. And the women examine doll parts because their feminist class meets before this one. To re- discover the body means it was once lost. Hiking low rise jeans over pale hips, could these not be maps? I wish it was art to be indecent, push boys down until they are comfortable enough with their own genitals, before being so eager to see.
My Two Lives
I dream Chicago because I miss it with both of my hearts.
Built too far east I became a Union machine.
My buttons are not beautiful, only practical jokes. I sleep a bad pun.
Broken belts were bad lovers, my hips too hungry for memories.
I packed up and moved, replanted my ugly factory.
Corn as cultural commodity laughs at silly saints who try to move away.
Airplanes can no longer land in Nebraska without field hand attachments.
I try to disembody the ground. It takes me in, tells me to dream.
